Hey Reader! This long weekend is rapidly drawing to a close! 🙁 I hope it's been a wonderful weekend for you 🤠 On this day, September 1st in 1905, Alberta (my home province) became a province in Canada! I thought I would talk about this in the light of horses. In 2011 (yes, over 100 years later), a businessman (Gary Millar) in Strathcona County took it upon himself to run a horse count survey. The results indicated that Strathcona County had the largest concentration of horses in the province, earning it the name of 'Horse Capital of Canada'! A 2021 Alberta Equestrian Federation (AEF) study found over 142,000 horses across Alberta, with most used for recreation or sport. I believe the reason for the AEF study was to let people know the economic impact that horses have in our province. When people have horses they spend money on them and doing things with them! ...and horse lovers spend money going to watch horse events! The 2011 Horse Count, I believe, was to kickstart the importance of having a facility in Strathcona County that could be used for recreational opportunities involving horses and other animals. It has taken many, many years and a lot of perseverance but that agricultural facility called The Pointe finally became a reality this year! As a matter of fact, I missed the grand opening by one day 😥 as I was away camping in Kananaskis ⛰️ (with the bears! 🐻). A couple of emails earlier I wrote about the importance of having a dream. I believe it was Gary Millar's 'dream' (well, one of them anyway!) to have that facility available in Strathcona County in Alberta! Keep dreaming and working towards an outcome. It might take awhile but your dream could impact so many others! Well, as you prepare to go back for a short week of work, if you have thoughts about any of this, I'd love to hear from you! ...and until I hear from you, stay well and take care... Remember, if you’ve missed previous emails (the public ones, at least), you can go here to read them. -Sylvia (persevering for an impact) Schneider PS - Here are some handy links to information:
