Hey Reader!

I saw something on Facebook the other day (you know, I have to say right here that I spend very little time on Facebook!) ...these things just seem to find me!

Someone was selling two horses.

One was a young, green-broke horse, with one eye missing 😔 Not much more needs to be said about that.

...well, let's just say you wouldn't want to take on the care of a horse like that unless you were very knowledgeable about horses and their training!

The other was an older mare with ringbone. 🥺 Ringbone is a serious affliction which requires a fair bit of money and care to simply keep from getting too bad and, even with maintenance, the horse can't be used for much more than a companion horse for a lone horse in a pasture.

Something nobody brings to your attention when you buy a horse is that something could happen to it, making it not suitable for your purposes, unsuitable for anyone to want to buy, but not detrimental enough an affliction for the horse to be put down.

All of these are sad thoughts that, if you are a responsible horse owner, can not be brushed off.

When we take on the care of a horse, it becomes our responsibility for the rest of it's life.

This means we want to be absolutely sure we are getting a healthy animal from the start.

One of the ways we do that is by paying a qualified vet for a Pre-Purchase Exam (PPE).

It funny how, during Covid I kept seeing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) but all I could think of was Pre-Purchase Exam! 😅

Even when your horse passes the most rigorous of PPE's, they can be like children and easily get themselves injured! For this reason we try our best to take care of them and give them the best chance we can of living long and healthy lives.

If you know someone who's thinking of purchasing a horse, this comprehensive horse ownership checklist is free for them to download! Just forward this email to them if you have trouble sharing the link!

Well, I hope your weekend has been great! Mine has 🤠

...until I hear from you, stay well and take care...

Remember, if you’ve missed previous emails (the public ones, at least), you can go here to read them.
