Hey Reader! Happy Monday! Hey... People reached out after I announced my fall back in September, when all the daily emails stopped. I tried to respond to everyone who reached out. I really thought I'd be back to sending out daily emails much sooner! Turns out there's more to a broken hip recovery than just the physical aspect 😬 I'll chat about that in a different email. Almost 3 months later, with Fall turning into Winter all too soon, I thought I should try getting 'back on the horse' (haha... figuratively-speaking only!), and start by telling the story of the fall of my life! 😅 So, here's the whole sordid story... Turns out no matter how thoughtful you are, there's always room for error and this error caused me a broken hip. 🫤 I hadn't had a great sleep the night before but I knew cold weather was right around the corner and I wanted to follow through with my plan for starting my young mare. So I kicked myself out the door that day, knowing I was tired, but knowing I wasn't planning to do much. I took my saddle and bucket of tools into the arena and, when I was walking through the barn, I heard a strange noise. 🤔 There was a fan blowing on a frame of rawhide which was being prepared for future braiding. "Oh," I thought, "that's going to bother my horse." Eventually I walked my mare to the arena and, sure enough, as soon as we rounded the corner she threw her head up and wanted to leave! I asked her to stop and she did. I told her it was okay, that it was only a fan, and that I just wanted her to take one step forward and we would stop and figure things out. She did take a step forward but, unbeknownst to me, stepped on my right boot then turned to her right bumping into me. I'm usually nimble on my feet but when I tried to get out of her way I, of course, couldn't move and was knocked to the ground! (Such a bizarre accident! 🤷🏻♀️) I heard the 'thunk' and knew I'd broken my hip. 😬 Luckily it was repaired surgically the next day but they had been saying it might be up to 3 days before the surgery! 😕 Well, that's part of the story. I'll save more for later. Just thought I'd let everyone know that I'm still alive and trying to get back on track. Don't expect daily emails ...yet 😅 I hope you're all doing well! 🙂 If ever you want to chat about anything, just reply to this email and let me know! ...until I hear from you, stay well and take care... Remember, if you’ve missed previous emails (the public ones, at least), you can go here to read them. -Sylvia (back on the horse, ...figuratively) Schneider PS - Here are some handy links to information:
